It's about being a warrior. It doesn't matter about the cause necessarily. This is your path and you will pursue it with excellence. You face your fear because your goal demands it. That is the goddamn warrior spirit. I think that the free soloing mentality is pretty close to warrior culture, where you give something 100% focus because your life depends on it. --Alex Honnold

Another unforgettable night with Wendy. We went to Kaya for the dinner and then watched Aquaman. Great effects for those undersea scenes in the movie, and the song Everything I Need by Skylar Grey was terrific! Genuine Vietnamese noodles and spring rolls! Delicious, satisfying, and honestly I am very used to the noodles. I even found that they didn't put bean sprouts in the noodles! Not until we were about to eat did we find that there was no big soup bowl at my place, so we went to Target for bowls lol. Wendy had some first signs of a cold, so we rushed to Trader Joe's 10 minutes before it closed to get some ginger candies. Luckily, those candies were better than she thought and she liked them! But still we forgot to buy the pills. When we came back to my place, I simply forgot that I had soup spoons right in the drawer where I put the spatula that I almost used on a daily basis. How come I blacked out though we didn't even drink for the night lol! Watched Murder on the Orient Express after the meal. As always, enjoyed every moment of the night.

Checked out Smokey's new place before went to Rose Tea Cafe for dinner. Then we went to Waterfront to watch Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which was a terrific one! When I drove back from the theater, there was a traffic sign at the end of Homestead Grays Bridge saying "road ahead is blocked and local traffic only". Several cars including mine dared to cross the bridge until a 61D bus showed up. Then everyone followed the bus and finally crossed the bridge, which was kind of funny.

We walked/climbed in the wood for around two hours . It was fun and a lot of exercise! We also checked out a restaurant which was very close to my place called Beto's. They offered weird pizzas with uncooked cheese on top. Zach thought he was lucky because he only ordered one slice. I felt luckier because I got an extra cup of Fanta for myself. Lol!

City of Play premiered a neighborhood-wide, immersive adventure to welcome the Greenfield Bridge. Part storytelling, part scavenger hunt, and part festival, the Fantastic Adventure was a new type of theater that puts people in the center of the action. We started the adventure by choosing an apple on the bridge wrapped in a hand-drawn map, and followed the instructions on the map to collect tokens for the team we chose to fight for, i.e. Wisdom vs. Wonder. In the end, Wisdom made Wonder, but it was Wonder which I always believed in that won the game! Zach was trying to write the Chinese character 正 which he learned when he was in Beijing to count the tokens for his team Wisdom, and seriously used an abacus to double-check the number. However, when I asked him how to pronounce that character, he said it was 五, another character which means five but indeed looks very similar to the one he wrote. Came out and tried to fool the American fellows again? Lmao.

After the dinner, we went to SouthSide Works and watched Atomic Blonde for free because they ran into some problems with their credit card machines. Though it took me around 2 hours to clean up my place, it's worth it. A wonderful night with friends.
Aug. 11, 2017
Planned to try Onion Maiden in Allentown for dinner before seeing Sex Werque at Carnegie Stage. It didn't open this afternoon, which was exactly the destiny for the four of us, Alysa, Alysa's boyfriend (Mr. WhoseNameIForgetAndIamSorry from Iran), Zach, and me. Instead, we went to Loving Hut, a chain restaurant that serves vegan cuisine. As a carnivore, I was really surprised by this meal. Their chow mein had exactly the same flavor as the noodle in my hometown. This was EXQUISITE! I asked for sesame oil to add to the chow mein, and gave them a big tip after we learned that it was their last day of running the restaurant here. What a pity! I felt so lucky to be able to try this place before they moved. Then we drove to Carnegie for the show. It was good and basically unpacked the world of sex work (as a stripper) to the audience. It was definitely not an easy job. I got an one-on-one chance with the actress though I was sitting in the corner (yeah, I was soooooo obsessed with "one-on-one" ever since I came back from Sleep No More in New York). Zach and I met with Ella, the actress who happened to be Zach's friend (yes, Zach seemed to know everyone in town... weird). Then Zach drove me back and had some chrysanthemum tea at my place.

July 19, 2017
I began to have meals at Szechuan Express since my second semester. Started from a lunch with Ouyang and then moved on to both lunch and dinner almost every single day. It's been one year and a half. Still remember that my very first meal was Stir Fried Bean Curd & Chives with Shrimp. Was obsessed with Garlic Ginger Shrimp with Beef Short Ribs for a while, and then moved on to Stewed Beef Over Rice. My favorite dish is Shredded Shrimp with Baby Bamboo. To be more specific, it’s Shredded Shrimp with Baby Bamboo cooked by Chef Jason who runs the restaurant. Even more specifically, it’s Super Spicy Shredded Shrimp with Baby Bamboo plus Fried Bean Curd over White Rice without Carrot. Each time I left the campus for meals, Zach would tease me about going there every day with no variety. “You are not eating there. You are paying rent! This is unreal.” Indeed, I brought friends to this place from time to time and not everyone understood my loyalty to it. Anyway, I’m gonna miss the time checking out this place every day and would like to come back on weekends once I start to work.

A great Friday night. Biked to Zach's place and said hi to the two cats, Shmesley and Wesley. Then, we went to a concert at the Point where Ricky joined us. Late in the night, headed to Lefty's in the Strip where Alexis joined us and we had a very interesting discussion about costume design in movies and TV shows. By the way, I LOVE their Strong Island Ice Tea!!! Again, thanks to Zach who led all our way back.
June 9, 2017
Had a very good Unblurred night with Alysa, Char, Richy, and Zach. Wesley, the cat at Zach's place had a girlfriend. The cherry tree fruited but there may be worms living in the fruits. The sandwich at Spak was still delicious and Unblurred fantastic. We had drinks at Apteka before Alysa drove me home.

Saw Kong: Skull Island with Smokey. With a tight plot and great characters, this movie was epic. The way we caught the bus home looked exactly like the last scene of the movie, which was so tense!

Hello, 2017. Happy New Year!
Jan. 1, 2017
So much fun today with George. In the morning, we visited the Andy Warhol Museum, which is the largest one in the country dedicated to a single artist. Then we headed to Primanti Bros. for sandwiches. We visited the Fort Pitt Museum on our way to the well-known Duquesne Incline. I learned more details about the local history in the 18th century, and recalled those interesting stories about the 'evil' general Forbes I heard from Rebecca at ICC. Then we walked across M-river (Monongahela River) and took the Duquesne Incline to the top of Mount Washington, from where we could overlook the Pittsburgh skyline. We dined at bd's Mongolian Grill before we watched Passengers at SouthSide Works. Indeed, we ended the day with such a wonderful movie!
Dec. 28, 2016
Went to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens with Amit and George, and Cathedral of Learning with George.

Friendsgiving Potluck at Jeremy's place! Had a lot of fun with many new friends. We enjoyed the delicious turkey as well as home-made cuisines and desserts from different places. I brought the dish "braised beef with potato chips". Then, we played Beer pong, Taboo and Paper telephone. Another unforgettable night, which reminds me of the Jewish family who spent last Thanksgiving with me. I hope they all are doing well. Again, thankful for family, friends and good health. PC: Lu Han
Nov. 24, 2016
Bar-hopping with Lu, Javaneh, George, Chaoya, Jeremy, Amit, Nilesh and Brian. Though we ended up with this selfie at the bus stop after spending a lot of time looking for a dance club, I really let loose tonight. Nice hanging out and it reminded me of the night with friends at Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong two years ago. Time flies and we should always cherish the moment. As the semester heats up, we'll definitely make more off-campus leisure activities like this happen now and then to reduce the rate at which our brain turns into a puddle.

# Happy Birthday to Zach! L’Chaim! # Zach’s birthday trip was indeed a secret fun and peculiar one. The Bayernhof Museum (www.bayernhofmuseum.com, the former home of Mr. Charles B. Brown, III, the museum’s founder) houses a large collection of music boxes and other fascinating automatic musical instruments, as well as many other interesting items. I enjoyed exploring it as we passed from room to room, at times through hidden doors and secret passages. Bob, who claimed himself to be the secondary guide blinked at me several times during the tour. In our discussion over the lunch, we began to suspect Bob to be the real owner of the house, who really liked listening to guests' praise for his collection and had made up those stories to simply fulfill himself. It's worth noting that the so-called “Charlie” ‘s company was Gas-Lite Manufacturing, which is very similar to the word “gaslight”. “Gaslight” is used to describe an attempt to abuse someone psychologically by deceiving them so much they lose track of the truth. Anyway, I reeeeeealy enjoyed the day with Zil, Ben, Taylor, Anna, Irene, Laura, Zach and Celeste. Talked with Zach’s mom, Emily over the phone, who is a very kind lady. Thank Ben for the rides and the interesting conversations on our way! Also, I’ll definitely check out Anna and Taylor’s Slowdanger (www.slowdangerslowdanger.com).

Then we headed to Panther Hollow, an incredible watershed in Schenley Park. What a little known gem in the city! If somebody's looking to escape the hustle of Pittsburgh, he should definitely try hanging around there for a while. I really enjoyed it and its very quiet down there. It's absolutely a great place to just relax, unwind, and free the minds. At around 4 pm, went to Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh for my second visit and continued from where I left last time, the jewelry gallery. Found a bunch of amazing pieces of art in both ancient and modern times as well as the fossils of various ancient animals. Really let loose and got tired today.

After biking all our way to the downtown through a bike track, Zach and I dined at Subba, a Nepali restaurant. The so-called "momo" in Nepali dishes was basically like "xiaolongbao" with a thicker wrapper, which made it less delicious than the latter. Though I was quite comfortable with the flavors there, I'm still in Team Chinese Food. Then we headed to The Ladle's concert. We climbed up a myriad of stairs before we finally reached Greg Manley's house. I couldn't believe that Zach had suggested we carry the bikes with us on our way upstairs. It was unreal. Greg was a freelance artist and he decorated his house with all kinds of exotic artwork. We enjoyed a good view of the city from near his house. As Zach described, "Baseball, the city, the summer, neighbors talking with each other ... this scene is like the spirit of Americans' life. It reflects at least the spirit of people's life here if it's not everybody's daily life." The Ladle's music was marvelous. The three girls from Boston were on their summer tour all over the east coast. Here's their website: http://www.theladles.com/ Nice hanging out and I rode around 13 miles in total today. New record.

A bike is a bike. You use it to commute from point A to point B. -- The man, who went back to school at his forties, that I met at Free Ride.

Awesome music, though I found the Don Juan in the film hilarious and even a little stupid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_DN4oklEW4

Though I spent all the evening working on a bike that was a wrong size, I had an otherwise good experience at Free Ride today! The visit for me was more about meeting people than merely getting a bike. Dan, a pilot, who's absolutely an expert at bikes, helped and taught me a lot this evening. Without him, I can't even imagine how I was able to put those different parts together. Really can't thank him enough! Also want to thank Zach for encouraging me to go to such an interesting place and meet the nice people there at https://freeridepgh.org

Shit happens. We gotta move. Thanks to Shen and Keyang, today's move went pretty well! The move reminded me of the old times: the three of us drove a u-haul truck to move into a new place, and then we ate at How Lee when we first met each other about one year ago. We did exactly the same thing today! Also, a special thank you goes out to Jen, who kindly offered to help me with moving soon after she was back in town.

My first Thanksgiving in the States. An unforgettable dinner with Connie, Ian, Becca, Andy and their family. I'll remember the true meaning about Thanksgiving I learned this evening and hopefully can pass their kindness to others some day. Thankful for family, friends and good health.
